The word ‘susegad‘ has many meanings in Konkani (the language of Goa) and it is a word that has no direct translation into English. It can mean laid back, peaceful and satisfied, contented with life, seeing the bright side of circumstances or simply just lying back and observing the play of the palm fronds against a perfect blue sky.

The Casa has been designed to offer you the opportunity to find your own meaning for the word, at your own pace, in your own way. It is an oasis of easygoing, stylish indulgence; an escape from the excesses of mass tourism and from the headaches of western lifestyles.

So Norman and Carole Steen welcome you to Casa Susegad! Get away from the hectic day to day stresses of life and experience The Art of Elegant Idleness!

That said, most guests find that this Art is enhanced by some activity – maybe a massage or a yoga session, perhaps a brisk walk into the village or around the lanes. Possibly a day out at a local beach beckons or a visit to Old Goa, the Ponda temples and spice gardens attracts? How about a shopping trip to the boutiques of Panjim or the markets of Margao?

Whatever you decide, Casa Susegad is there to make it happen. Need a taxi for a few hours… or a whole day? Require a phone call made to check something is open? Or a complete itinerary arranging? Well, that’s what the staff at the Casa are here for!

But don’t try too hard… as one wise writer once said, “just try to soak in the vibe of the place, even if you do not do very much”.
