The Casa’s rescue animals are very much a part of life at Casa Susegad and many guests have reported back as to just how much they have enhanced their stay, most having left with a firm favourite.
Although six dogs and six cats may seem like a lot, Casa Susegad sits in one and a half acres of land, so they do have a lot of space. If you are particularly nervous of dogs, please let the Casa know in advance so that your introductions are conducted under controlled, single dog, circumstances. Otherwise, be assured of a very warm and enthusiastic welcome!
Goa Animal Welfare Trust has been working in Goa for many years now and Casa Susegad has been pleased to support them whenever and however possible, particularly with very necessary fund raising. They have done much over the years to help control South Goa’s local stray dog population and the spread of rabies and so deserve all the support that can be given them.
Blondie is the alpha female and she, together with Basil and his sister Lisa, are the animals guests will probably have most interaction with. They act as the Casa doorbell, letting everyone know when guests arrive and are always on hand to say farewell at the end of stays.
Coco and Ginny live mostly in Carole and Norman’s quarters whilst Missy lives mainly in the kitchen wing.
The cats are not so visible but a few do make their presence felt, most noticeably Pickle, who will usually be found asleep in the morning on various guest beds. The others – Hardy, Nandu, Thomas, Gizzi Little and Daz – will usually be found closer to the fire kitchen – particularly when fish is being cleaned and trimmed!
